Happy death day 2u
Whilst this movie still retains some of the horror elements, this is more a sci-fi dark comedy but that's definitely not a bad thing.
I enjoyed the first one as much as this one, which surprised me since I went in knowing that it wasn't going to be the same genre as the first ,so I wasn't expecting to really enjoy the sci-fi comedy spin they put on it, but I did.
I found this more on a commerical comedy horror mashup which was a little different that the first film.
Horror: 4/10
Comedy: 8/10
Overstuffed Cheesy Parts: 5/10
With the alternate dimensions thing being in place, as well as the image of another Tree stuck somewhere whilst our favourite sorority sister goes through the loop again, this movie does explore the "what if" angle, especially with Tree's interactions with her mother, Carter and Laurie. The suicide montage had moments of comedy gold and, whilst the decision to go back to her own dimension at the end was predictable and a bit off, it would make more sense if Tree was like "there's another me trapped somewhere who will never live this life".
They've answered questions left over in Happy Death Day without crowding it in and neglecting the plot of Happy Death Day 2U.
I liked the previous installment more because we expected the same to continue but got a surprise of comic punhces and that's totally acceptable.
I had a decent time watching this movie. As always, Rothe is an amazing actress and there was not a dull moment when she was on the screen.
It seems that a vast majority of movie critics have berated this movie for simpleton humor, social implications, and “overused slasher tropes.”
When the original came out, between that and It, my little brother chose the former and the sequel never really disappoints.
however, people have to understand that although this piece isn’t an obscure french indie film begging for critical acclaim, the film was never intended for that.
They've also made it different enough from the first film that although I thought I knew what to expect going in, I was wrong and in a good way.
When I saw the first movie, it became one of my favorite movies of all time. It was hilarious! I'd rate the first one a 10/10 and this one a 7/10.
I found it nice nad wouldn't criticise it. The plot showed the previously evil roommate in a good light while i guess most of us realised/ had a hint that it was infact the doctor who was doing it.
Some things in this movie just didn't make sense. Overall,i'd say its a good watch !
Sometimes media can serve the sole purpose of public entertainment. Was this film a 21st century masterpiece? Maybe, maybe not.
Rothe deserves a lot of the credit here with her range of emotions from "I am so done with this" to "So happy I'm going to traumatise these idiots" all the way to absolute, unfiltered, borderline maniacal rage where you can almost see the aneurysm happen, someone put this lady in more movies please!
Some of the acting is just so cheesy. I wasn't confused by anything that happened, which sometimes happens when sequel films try to make things too different from their predecessor, but HDD2U handled it perfectly.
I couldn't take some of the serious parts seriously, I was just laughing in the theater. The sentimental parts were sometimes sweet but mostly cheesy. But this movie served its commercial role to bring forward classic tropes that have been effective in the entertainment of the masses.
This has cemented Happy Death Day as a feel-good horror icon of the 2010's.
There's a set-up for a possible third film in the franchise, and given how much HDD2U impressed me I'll definitely go and see any future third film that's created and look forward to it.
Overall, if you're not a critical 18 year old like me, be my guest and go see it.
It rolled together a variety of genres and took some risks at being very divergent from its predecessing film. I liked it even more than the first. If you want a good, light-hearted laugh alongside a slasher plot filled with twists and turns that jump from genre to genre, then you ar
in luck.
Besides that, the montage in this movie had me dying. But don't expect a gory typical horror movie, the genre has switched to more of a sci-fi thriller. If you're looking for some gore, watch a Mortal Kombat fatality compilation.
I would say that Rothe would be our reigning scream queen but, really, she's this generation's Sigourney Weaver.
Overall, I think this piece doesn’t deserve the scrutiny it has from overrighteous, pretentious film critics who forget a major facet of cinema, not every film emerged a century revolutionizing masterpiece but each became part of cinema nonetheless. .
